Iraqi Higher Education Delegation Visits Iran University of Science and Technology

On Saturday, August 30, 2025, Dr. Haydar Abed Dhahad, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and scientific research of Iraq, together with a high-ranking delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research, visited Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). The delegation was received by IUST President Dr. Shokrieh vice presidents, a number of school chairs, and international affairs representatives from IUST and other leading Iranian universities. In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Shokrieh highlighted the university’s academic and research capacities, including 15 specialized faculties, active research centers and journals, as well as IUST’s standing in global university rankings. He also emphasized the university’s role as a member of the UT5 consortium of top Iranian technical universities and pointed to the presence of many Iraqi students currently enrolled at IUST. Dr. Golshan Khavas, Director of Scientific and International Cooperation at IUST, also gave a report on the university’s position in international rankings and introduced the priorities and programs of the UT5 consortium, expressing readiness to support the establishment of a similar consortium in Iraq.
 
 
In response, Dr. Dhahad expressed his appreciation for IUST’s achievements and described the university as one of the region’s distinguished scientific institutions. He stressed the importance of strengthening academic ties between Iran and Iraq and extended an official invitation to the IUST leadership and UT5 representatives to attend a joint meeting with the Iraqi UT5 consortium in the near future. Referring to the significant progress of Iranian universities despite international challenges, he noted their valuable role in advancing regional science and technology. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening academic partnerships and highlighted the shared historical and scientific heritage of Iran and Iraq as a strong foundation for future collaboration.
